The oldest Hindu temple of Gokarna Mahadev in Kathmandu hosts religious rituals in September in honor of Father’s Day (Kuse Aunsi). Fathers Day is considered a holiday and it is unique!
On a September day, usually in early September, Nepalese Hindus honor their living fathers, honor the memory of the dead to bring peace of mind to their souls, pay homage to the older men in the family and show the strength of family ties everywhere.
On Father’s Day, the children offer them treats and are blessed by the elders in the family. Many Hindus from all parts of Nepal come to the Shiva temple in Gokarna, shave their heads, bathe in the Bagmati River and pray.
